Coach Wayne Larker is now in his 36th year at Coastal Alabama Community College and 35th year as head coach. His teams have posted an overall record of 1042 wins and 758 losses with an outstanding winning percentage. The Chiefs under his reign have participated in post season play 30 times in 34 seasons. In those years, they have won 8 league titles and 5 State Championships.
Over the years more than 1000 student athletes have gone through the Sun Chief program, most from the surrounding areas but also athletes from as far away as Australia. The majority of his players have continued on to four-year institutions and numerous players have made it to the professional ranks. Many Sun Chiefs are now currently continuing their careers as coaches and scouts at all levels of baseball.
Coach Larker began his college education and playing career at Long Beach City College before moving to the University of South Alabama. There he earned a B.S. Degree in Education and Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology while playing first base and pitching for the Jaguars. He then furthered his playing career by signing a professional contract with the California Angels in 1981.
At Coastal Alabama, Coach Larker also instructs Physical Education classes and just recently became the college’s Athletic Director.
